Irwin/Bridges family papers
An 1856 certified copy of William Irwin's 1822 will, made after the Washington County Courthouse was demolished in 1855. Also included is a Dooly County, Georgia, slave bill of sale of Emma by John H. Taylor to Daniel Bridges, which can be roughly dated by the witnessing signature of Nancy Bridges, Daniel's wife, who died by 1853.
Isaac Wheeler Avery papers

Ivy F. Thompson memoir and diary
Although Thompson began this book as a diary while he was practicing law in Polk County, Georgia, most of it is a memoir, completed in 1871, of his early life and his service in the Confederate Army, Phillips' Legion, Company D.
Ivy family papers
Papers of the Billings S. and Lucy Pittman Ivy family. Includes deeds and account records of property owned and improved by the Pittman family on Marietta, Luckie, and Walton Streets in Atlanta, GA, especially concerning the 1896 settlement of the B. S. Ivy estate. Included also are two Civil War era letters of Henrietta Pittman; later letters concerning Ivy, Milam, Taylor, and Strickland family news and social engagements; printed school programs; and other printed items.
J. A. Breedlove letter book and W. W. Buck daybook
Correspondence recorded in the letter book, 1837 - 1869, by Breedlove is from Milledgeville. Buck's Store Daybook, in Washington County, Georgia, covers 1852 - 1853. There are also three folders of news clippings and other loose papers removed from the volumes.

Record of taxes paid by Maund of Geneva, Talbot County, Georgia, on wild lands and other property held by him and others throughout Georgia.
J. D. Rowlett collection
J. F. Harrison letter
The letter was a draft written on newsprint to Nathaniel E. Harris, who had been serving Bibb County, Georgia, in the Georgia House of Representatives. Harrison makes some argument that involves a judge Heard, Mr. Hodgeson, and Governor Henry D. McDaniel. At one point he states "it was assumed that Gov. McDaniel had exerted his influence to induce Judge Heard to vote for Atlanta."
J. M. McClelland Civil War letter
Letter to Mrs. N. E. Cushing, mentioning the death of Brigadier General George Doles. McClelland served in Company I of the 44th Regiment Georgia Volunteers.
J.(?) M. Tate Civil War letters
The first letter, written in May 1862 near Richmond, Virginia vividly describes fighting and retreat in the Yorktown and Williamsburg, Virginia, areas. The second letter is less legible.
J. O. McCook Civil War letter

James and T. N. Paden family store account books
Record of sales of general merchandise by members of the Paden family of Decatur, citing date, name of account, type of merchandise, and cost. The 1832 - 1868 volume also records some books purchased by the Union Sunday School, 1846. The 1859 - 1878 volume also contains handwritten entries concerning weights and measures, arithmetic exercises, and several compositions by James R. Paden.

James B. Nickelson Account book
The store account book (1839 - 1848) recorded unspecified merchandise sold together with date, charges, and cash received. The cash book (1839 - 1843) recorded receipts and disbursements, citing receipts from total sales and from notes due and disbursements for Nickelson's payments of notes and purchases of property and goods. Many of the receipts and payments of notes due are for substantial sums of money.
James B. Ware family papers
Correspondence, legal and business papers, and newspaper clippings from Coweta and Heard Counties, Georgia, concerning James B. Ware, his wife, Sarah Simms (1833 - 1916), and other family members. One vitriolic letter from Tom Bucket attacks Judge John Mims Ware, 1831. Both men represented Heard County, Georgia, in the state legislature.
James B. Warren artesian well diary
James Bellar Knowles journal
The journal gives an almost daily account of young Knowles' life in Georgia, mostly in Bersheba, Henry County, and, on the last page, his entry into medical school in Nashville, Tennessee. A second volume is a medical formulary and pocket diary in which he made notes that he later wrote up more fully in the journal.

Letter by Rossignol in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, to John R. Williams, c/o Francis Williams, Taunton, Massachussetts, dated 15 July. Apparently the men were business partners in a Savannah brickworks, and the entire letter concerns supplies, machinery, and labor needed for their business.

James Murphy Hill business records
The account book seems to document the loans and repayments of a small loan business owned by James M. Hill. Names and addresses of the borrowers checked in the Atlanta City Directory, 1912, identify them as African American citizens, many of them women employed as laundresses, domestics, and dressmakers.

He mentions that his company has been vacinated for smallpox as there is a case in the Lowndes company next to them. He also worries about money and how his mother will manage cultivating land and slaughtering the animals for meat back home.

This collection includes wills, marriage and death certificates, and other legal records of the following families: Pickett, Terry, Raiford, Boggan, King, Morgan, Jennings, Staiert, Dewitt, and Taylor of Anson County, North Carolina, and Dougherty County, Georgia. Also includes a few pages from the records of Salem Female Academy in Salem, North Carolina, and a license to bring slaves into the state of South Carolina.
Jeremiah Jefferson Davis Civil War Letters
Jeremiah wrote most of these letters home to his parents, including one about the First Battle of Bull Run. Two letters are by brother Joseph. A list of women with their children and birth dates probably is of slaves.

Jesse S. Strickland Civil War letter
